The Best Kitchen Design

Finding The Best Kitchen Design For You

Considering the amount of time a person spends in the kitchen, especially the one doing most of the cooking, it should be one of the best designed rooms in the house. It should not only be conveniently arranged, but have a welcoming atmosphere. This one room is usually the hub of the household, making it vitally important to the comfort, health and welfare of the entire family, not just the cook.

Not too big, and not too small, an ideal kitchen is just the right size for its function. It has ample room to move around, for all the appliances, and furniture, but isn’t so large it necessitates a whole lot of walking to get anything done. When it comes down to it, the arrangement of the kitchen is of more importance than the actual size. A lot can be cleverly packed in a small space.

Windows and Flooring

Windows in a kitchen are a big plus, giving the room a more cheerful look, and allowing for sunlight. It’s also nice to be able to open the windows and allow fresh air in the kitchen, especially if you’ve had a cooking mishap and filled the air with foul odors or smoke!

Flooring is another important aspect of the healthy kitchen. It needs to stand up to moisture and be easily cleaned. There are some carpets made for kitchens, but tile and vinyl flooring are much easier to keep clean. These days there are patterns of flooring to suit almost anyone’s preference and decor.

Cupboards and Counters and Sinks, Oh My!

Plenty of cupboard and counter space is a big help. There never seems to be enough of either! Perhaps it’s one of “Murphy’s Law’s” that the amount of kitchen paraphernalia expands to fill every cupboard and cover the counters.

It does help, however, if small appliances and other items that are in frequent use are easily reachable. Save the tall spaces, or shelves near the floor for items used less frequently.

It’s also wise to buy easily cleaned cupboards and counters.  It’s inevitable there will be spills and splashes in a kitchen, and it’s less work if they are easily cleaned.  Wood cupboards should have an easy care finish, and the same goes for whatever type of countertop you get.  Beautiful cupboards and counters are wonderful, but there’s no reason not to combine beauty and convenience in the kitchen!

The sink sees a lot of use, so a good, deep double sink is a great addition. Further, a high arched faucet also makes things easier in the kitchen, such as when you have a deep pot you need to fill with water or clean.
