Can you put sauted chicken then put it in the oven?

I am very good at following directions when it comes to making food, but I got confused on this one. I have read many different recipes where you put it in the oven and you don't after it is sauted.

Saute garlic in butter and olive oil, about 3 minutes, add chicken breast and saute 5 minutes on each side over low heat.
Place sauteed chicken in a 9"x13" baking pan. Sprinkle mushrooms on top of chicken. Mix cream and tarragon, pour over chicken. Cover with aluminum foil and bake at 325 degrees for 2 hours. Serves 6 to 8.

Will that make the chicken taste bad? I am going to make creamy tarragon chicken
I edited the title and now it sounds even worse. What I meant was:

"Can you saute chicken and then put it in the oven?"

of course you can.
What you are doing is putting some color onto the outside of the chicken and then baking it. I do it all the time with a chicken and rice recipe I have.
