Lid Pan

When oven roasting a chicken do I cover the roasting pan with the lid, or tin foil, or leave it off?

I've never oven roasted a chicken before so forgive me if I sound like a newb, lol lol. Anyway, I prepared this bird by rubbing some garlic butter and poultry seasoning on the outside, By leaving the roasting pan lid on or off, or covering it with foil will it still get that brownish, crispy outer layering? BTW I'm roasting it at 350 degrees. Thanx for the info ya'll

I cover until the last 20 minutes or so, at which point I uncover so the skin can get crispy.
