why does my dog take its dry food out of the bowl and set it on the floor to eat it?

she has done this for months (we rescued her from someone dumping her off). i can't stop her from doing it.
she is the only dog, and eats away from the cat, as there is no battle for food. and i have a stainless steel bowl for her. it does agitate me cause she doesn't eat all of it, and i find it everywhere! it hurts when i step on it and then i cuss cause i have to vaccum it up cause i broke it into 'dust' lol

My dog does the same thing. I don't know why he does it, but he'll take a few pieces, walk into the den and eat them there. Only when it's dry food though. And he won't eat all of it, he'll just eat at his own pace. Try running a little hot water over the dry food, don't drown it though, and mix it up. It kind of create a little gravy at the bottom. When I do that, he usually just eats it up instead of taking his sweet little time..
